Contrasts between the Soil Profiles Developed under Pines and Hardwoods

چکیده
pact B horizon, high in colloid. There is an obvious relationship between rate of height growth of trees and recognizable quantitative group combinations of factors, such as are summarized, for instance, in a specific soil type of specific slope and exposure. There is even more evident relationship between rate of height growth and specific soil profile characteristics. It has been possible to determine some of these profile characteristics as they are related to good, bad, or indifferent growth rate. These have been briefly described in the foregoing discussion. Summarily speaking, soil features influencing available water seem to be more influential than any others in determining the rate of growth of pine trees. These factors are, of course, degree of slope and its effect on drainage, exposure as affecting surface losses, and the depth, or spatial relationship and physical structure of the horizons.

Sex-specific roost selection by adult red bats in a diverse forested landscape
The eastern red bat (Lasiurus borealis) is a common, widespread species that occurs throughout eastern North America; however, information on potential differences in roost selection between sexes is limited. We studied summer diurnal roosting of adult red bats in a diverse forested landscape to: (1) characterize roosts of adult males and females, (2) determine habitat relationships for both se...

متن کاملRoost selection by male and female northern long-eared bats in a pine-dominated landscape
We radiotracked 17 male northern long-eared bats (Myotis septentrionalis) to 43-day roosts and 23 females to 49-day roosts in the Ouachita Mountains of central Arkansas during summers 2000–2005. We compared characteristics of roost trees between males and females, and compared characteristics of sites surrounding roosts with random locations for each sex. Roosts were located in cavities, crevic...

Magnetic susceptibility (χ) measurements are widely used for the evaluation of soil profile development. Fourteen soil profiles were studied in a relatively wide range of climatic conditions in Fars Province. Citrate-bicarbonate-dithionite (CBD) extraction and micro CT-Scan images were used to evaluate the source of magnetic susceptibility. The results showed that soil samples lost 23 to 91 per...
